The Difference between Judgment and Making an Observation

Many of us know the price that comes with passing judgment on other people. Eventually, someone passes the same judgment on you. So how do we keep our thoughts streamlined with the teaching of Christ, Buddha, or whom ever you model your spiritual life after? The first step is understanding the difference between judgment and making an observation. If you say "that dirty hooker"...that's a judgment. However, if you say "she is a hooker", that is an observation that has the propensity to be confirmed by facts. The use of an adjective to describe something usually suggest that you just passed judgment on someone or something.

We must train our minds to call things how we see it, without concluding what we see is "good" or "bad", just state the facts. It's hard for most of us to do because we are naturally inclined to judge. Passing judgment makes us feel better about our own shortcomings, but in reality that judgment will only worsen your undesirable condition.

So the next time you fix your thoughts or your tongue to pass judgment, just see things for what they are, and do so without the categorization of "good" or "bad". Give it a shot, and you will find that people will be attracted to you in more ways than one. Folks will want to confide in you, be in your company and give you a level of trust that they may not render to their own family members. Hotep!
