My Dear Evergreen

I am overwhelmed,
The sirens, the screams,
Yet your strength rectifies me,
From your root to your uttermost leaf,
I wish I could carry you with me.

You renew,
You witness the same things that I do,
Yet you don't appear to die at all,
Your leaves fall,
And new babes await.

I die daily,
Watching hollow death,
Observing hypnotized souls hurt each other,
It never fails,
…and I die.

I wish I could take you with me,
From the start of my day to the finish,
I wish I could take your stance and post it in my heart,
I wish I could push newness into this space,
I wish I could have your courage, your spirit.

Instead, I sit here beneath your greatness,
Hoping for better days yet knowing better,
And tomorrow I will do it all over again,
My dear evergreen,
I will return to death, without you.
